Grace and Grit

Bible in 52 Weeks… thoughts by Sarah

    • Day 1
      • Genesis 1-4
      • The serpent lied to the woman- she believed the serpent and she led the man astray. Adam & Eve- this teaches us as women that we do lead the men in our lives- they listen to us and do as we say- so it is our conviction and Godly assignment to make sure we are keeping our mind clear and obeying God’s word- not doing our own will. We have such a power to uplift our family and keep them on the right path. This is an incredible gift God has given us that we need to cherish and hold close to our hearts- always remembering it is God’s will for us to lead in matters of the mind- in our feminine, soft, intellectual ways- we have a huge responsibility. Keep the peace, keep the love, and keep the path straight. Be there for our partners to support them, love them, help them, and guide them. Pretty remarkable. We must guard our thoughts and our minds always.
      • There’s also a message that if you kill another man- God will banish you to the earth to wander restlessly all of the days of your life. However if someone kills that man- then he will suffer 7 fold. The lesson here is to not kill your fellow man- and certainly do not kill the men who are aimlessly wandering and struggling. This makes me think of the homeless specifically- they are aimlessly wandering but God is still protecting them. All of His children matter. This also makes me question abortion and honestly hurts my heart. Women that have been dealt the awful life-altering decision of whether to have a baby or have an abortion- are those women sentenced by God now to wander aimlessly and restlessly? It’s sad to think about- but I know God also redeems and forgives. If you confess your sins- He will save you.
      • Genesis 1:29- God speaks about creating plants and trees for men as FOOD. He does not say the livestock is meant to be food. My true belief is that God intended us to rule over livestock, but to eat fruits and seeds and vegetables only. This confirms that. I will keep my eyes open to see what other passages hint differently. But I do believe our bodies are temples and they are created perfectly and God’s intention is not for us to eat meat.
      • Genesis 2:7- Man was formed from dust on the ground and will return to dust. Somehow this gives me comfort- I think because of Chowder. I had him cremated and this passage gives me comfort that it was the right choice. He returned to dust and will return to the ground when he’s buried with me. This is God’s perfect plan. This also warms my heart that the trees, the ground, soil- it is Holy. We are surrounded in God’s holy creation.
      • Genesis 2:2- The 7th day- the day of rest- we do need to honor this day as Holy and rest. I often work on this day, or have a glass of wine- God is saying to rest on this day and spend time with Him. Time in thought and prayer and worship.
      • Other notes- I love that this book starts out with the story of Abraham and Sarah. Being named Sarah and childless- this story has always spoken to me and given me Hope.
      • The author Kimberly Moore ends the introduction of her book The Bible in 52 Weeks: A Yearlong Bible Study for Women saying, “As you read this book alongside the Word of the Lord, I hope you’ll be encouraged to be your best self and find some of the answers you’ve been seeking. As women, sometimes we’re the glue that holds everything together. We are the ones who encourage and uplift. We soothe boo-boos and love the hurt away. But who encourages us? Who lifts our spirits and bandages our wounds? It is my prayer that this book will uplift your spirit, draw God’s healing into where you’re hurting, and remind you how amazing you are.” I FELT every single word of that and knew she and God were speaking directly to my heart. Thank you 🙏
